Australia is known for their koalas. And with the rapid decline of of koala populations due to droughts, bushfires, dogs, humans and loss of habitats – we need to do our best to save these cute, cuddly koalas from extinction. There are fewer than 80 000 less in the wild so let’s make sure we take care of Australia’s own teddy bear!

 

OPTIONAL: Once you have completed you conclusion you may choose to PUBLISH your piece of writing. You could type it up, create a PowerPoint, create and iMovie or record it as a speech.

  • creeks and rivers
  • two types of burrows – one for nesting and one for camping/safe house

EXAMPLE ABOUT KOALAS:

There’s No Place Like Home

Koala’s call the land down under home. They’re found along the east side of Australia; however, each states koala is slightly different. The Queensland koala is the smallest type, with short silver fur. The Victorian koala is the largest with shaggier, brown fur. And the New South Wales Koala falls somewhere between the two. Koala’s are arboreal, meaning the dwell in trees (usually gum trees). The male koala has chest glands the he rubs against trees to mark his territory, or sometimes he will wee on tree trunks to do so!

Paragraph 1 – Appearance

Today you are going to write a paragraph on the appearance of Platypuses for your information report.

Make sure you include at least 3 facts about the appearance of a platypus using descriptive and engaging language.

Some facts you could include:

  • European settlers thought it was fake because it looked like a duck, otter and beaver
  • Male = average 50cm long
  • Female = average 43cm long
  • Weigh between 1kg and 2.4kg
  • Waterproof fur
  • Webbed feet 
  • Flat tail like a beaver

Spiders

Spiders come in many different and unique shapes and sizes. The largest spider is the tarantula. These spiders can grow up to 12cm long. The smallest is the money spider, which only grows to 1cm in size. All spiders have two body parts consisting of a head and abdomen, and eight legs. Spiders are known to have a tough, hard outer covering called an exoskeleton. Their bodies are often hairy and they are able to cleverly camouflage their body from predators.

Independent Learning Task:

Timeline

Using the provided information sheet, create a timeline of the history of Ballet.

Rule a neat line and add the important dates and events in order from earliest to latest. Don’t forget to give your timeline a title.


Learn a New Skill

Learn a new dance, drama or music skill. Perfect it. Record it.

 

Design a Costume

Design a costume for your chosen performing arts topic (dance, drama, music). Draw it in detail. Make sure to include labels to show what you have included. Give it a title and write a couple of sentences about your design.

 

Illustrator

Draw a detailed picture showing the elements of the performing arts of your choice.

 

Make an iMovie

Using iMovie or another movie making app, make a movie about your chosen topic. It can be a fictional movie or you could make a documentary. The choice is yours!

 

Create a School!

Create a dance, drama, music or media school. What is it called? What does it look like? Create some teacher profiles! What classes do they run? Create a timetable of all the classes available.

1. Choose one of the following problems:
– You have an argument with a friend.
– You accidentally broke something valuable at home.
– You see someone being bullied.

2. Write the problem in the middle (on the roundabout)
3. Write a possible solution to the problem along each road.
4. Write a positive and negative of each possible solution in the boxes.
5. Circle the solution you would most likely choose first.
