Reading fluency (15-30 mins):

  1. Read to self or read to someone (pet, doll, teddy, younger sibling…).
  2. Choose a good fit book or Wushka text https://wushka.com.au/login/

Learning Intention:

We are learning to ask questions before/during reading and then search for answers in the text using the features of a non-fiction text.

Success Criteria:

  • I can ask questions before reading a non fiction text
  • I can ask questions during reading
  • I can use features of a non-fiction text (contents, glossary, index etc) to find information
  • I can search for information to answer questions

Complete the graphic organiser based on your ASSIGNED TEXT on Wushka. The organiser can also be found on Seesaw.

Ask at least 2 questions before reading and 2 questions during reading.

Use the features of your non-fiction text (context, glossary, index etc.) to help you find the answer. Write the answer after reading.


□ Spelling Fluency (10 minutes):

Independent Task: Seek the sound from readers. Add to your list from yesterday. Find at least 5-10 /air/ words in your independent reading book.

 

Learning Intention:

We are learning to write a main body paragraph about habitats

Success Criteria:

  • I can include an appropriate sub heading
  • I can include relevant and factual information to give the reader a better understanding of the topic
  • I can include some visual elements to help the reader understand the topic, such as drawings, photographs, graphs, maps diagrams
  • I can use descriptive language and varied sentence structure to engage the reader

Independent Writing Task:

Paragraph 2 – Habitat

Today you are going to write a paragraph on the habitat of Platypuses for your information report.

Make sure you include at least 3 facts about the where platypus live using descriptive and engaging language.

Facts you may include:

  • Australia
  • eastern Australia – Queensland to Tasmania
  • creeks and rivers
  • two types of burrows – one for nesting and one for camping/safe house
  • build simple burrows in river banks, just above water level
  • semiaquatic – good swimmer and can stay under water for 10 minutes

EXAMPLE ABOUT KOALAS:

There’s No Place Like Home

Koala’s call the land down under home. They’re found along the east side of Australia; however, each states koala is slightly different. The Queensland koala is the smallest type, with short silver fur. The Victorian koala is the largest with shaggier, brown fur. And the New South Wales Koala falls somewhere between the two. Koala’s are arboreal, meaning the dwell in trees (usually gum trees). The male koala has chest glands the he rubs against trees to mark his territory, or sometimes he will wee on tree trunks to do so!


Counting Fluency (10 mins): Practise quick recall of your assigned multiplication goal. Practice your skip counting pattern or times tables out of order. OR IXL Multiplication Skill Builders.

We are learning to give change.

Success Criteria:

  • I can use subtraction to help to find the right change
  • I can break into dollars and cents and use take away
  • I can use a subtraction algorithm

If the change is wrong for the item you bought, write: Excuse me, I need…


PE Activity:

Play keepy-uppy with a balloon.

Create your own rules.

Choose an exercise punishment if the balloon touches the ground (eg. do 10 star jumps, do a lap around the yard)
