Information Report – Writing descriptive sentences

Year One:

Try to vary your sentence starters so you are not starting with the same words each time. Eg. Dogs have four padded feet. Their tails are long and fluffy.

Use your labelled pet diagram to write sentences that clearly describe what your pet looks like. Please use the lined paper provided in your child’s take home book bag. We would like the diagram and writing to be handed to the teacher when school resumes.

Make your own mandala.

Mandalas are usually circular patterns. Many people find that creating mandalas is calming.

Use objects in your house or garden to create your own mandala. You could use leaves, rocks, blocks, toys, Lego or even shoes! Take a picture of your creation when you are finished and send it to your teacher.

Year One:

  1. Watch the video of ‘The bad-tempered ladybird’.
  2. Watch the video a second time and pause the video when the times are mentioned so you can draw them on to  your clock faces sheet. Parents, please cover the small drawing of the clock with your hand each time your child tries to record the time on their blank clock face page. Then uncover the drawing and get your child to check their time matches. The child can then change their time  if needed.

Watch the video a second time. This time, think about:

Spelling Sounds~Write words (20 minutes)

Watch Mrs Barling’s Sounds~Write Spelling video. 

Use your current Sounds~Write Speed Read sheet:

  • Initial code – ‘steps’ sheet
  • Extended Code –  /ae/ Snakes & Ladders
  1. Read the word carefully – ‘say the sounds and read the word’.
  2. Cover the word.
  3. Carefully ‘say the sounds and write the word’. 
  4. Check carefully that you have written the word correctly.
  5. If correct, go to the next word. If incorrect, go back and try to write the word again.
  6. Complete as many words as you can in 20 minutes but remember to write neatly.
