Success Criteria: I can:

  • Talk about what I know about a topic before reading the text
  • Talk about new ideas or information in a text while I am reading.
  • Show evidence in the text of new ideas or information by identifying the appropriate sentence, picture or graphic.
  •  Differentiate between what is known and new information and talk about my thinking.

Independent Reading 15 mins:

  • Select a nonfiction book that you have not already read from the highest level you have access to.
  • Before reading, look at the front cover and think about what you already know about this topic.
  • Read the book.
  • After reading, think about the new information you have discovered by reading the book.

Read to Parent (10 mins) or complete the Book Week Activity

  • Read a Wushka Non Fiction book to your parent. Before reading, talk about what you already know about this topic. After reading, talk about the new information you learnt from reading this book.

This is a time for your child to check in, say hello to their classmates and ask any questions about the activities for the day. Webex Focus: We will be showing to the class our ‘Book Week’ costume and telling the class what we are dressed up as. Bring along the book to show if you have it!

We will leave the meeting open for a further 30 mins for children to work with the teacher or ask questions.

Learning Intention: We are learning about mass in measurement.

Mass is the amount of matter or substance that makes up an object. It is measured in units for example kilograms, which can be abbreviated as kg.

Success Criteria – I can:

  • Understand how to ‘read’ measurements like grams, kilograms, millilitres and litres
  • Follow instructions/recipe to make something involving measuring equipment
  • Weigh objects and determine which is heavier or lighter

MASS:

  • Watch the following two clips on Youtube to learn about measuring with scales and also with measuring cups.
  • Today get creative in the kitchen (with mum/dad or a helper) and make something using some type of measuring tool eg. measuring cups, spoons or scales. Some suggestions are pancakes, a smoothie, cupcakes or a packet mix cake.
  • We love to see what you’ve made so make sure you get some photos and send them through Seesaw to your teacher.
  • Then complete the worksheet below the videos.
