Activity: Read Sail Away as a class. Students jot down in Literacy notebook as the teacher reads.

We are learning to find poetry rhyme in Picture story books.

- Identify Rhyming vocab in picture story books.
- Focus on the Writer’s craft.
- Write our own example of Rhyming Poetry from the Author’s example.
Activity 1 (10 mins) : As a class write a list of famous Australian places that Kip and Little Nell could visit.
(eg. Big Pineapple in Queensland).
Activity 2 (10 mins): Write a list of descriptive words to describe one of the famous places. (student’s choose)
Big Pineapple – yellow, spiky, juicy, pointy, Queensland, Sunshine Coast, sunny, beach, sea, Mountains, green,.
Activity 3 (10mins): Create a list of Rhyming words for your descriptive words.
yellow= mellow, fellow, bellow
spiky – brightly, likely, lively, white, nightly, cheeky, mighty
beach – speech, feet, keep, each, reach, screech, peach
Activity 4 (30mins): Have a go at writing a Rhyming stanza that would fit in Sail away.

(10 mins) Activity 1: In their Literacy notebooks, students Brainstorm using Prefixes – Uni, bi and tri.
Eg: Unicycle, bicycle and tricycle.
Use Dictionaries, Thesauruses and Computers to help in this Brainstorming process..
Activity 2: HOMEWORK.
Stick in new homework sheet, choose 8 words of the spelling list and come up with 2 words from their own writing (look at their poetry from last few days).
Today for Wellbeing (if time): We are learning about inspirational women, Em Carey.
