Learning Intention: We are learning to compare and contrast (similar and different) ideas in a non-fiction text.
Success Criteria: I can:
- Select two ideas in the text to compare and contrast.
- Talk about how these two ideas are the same.
- Talk about how these two ideas are different.
- Record the similarities.
- Record the differences.
Independent Reading 15 mins:
- Read a reader from your Take Home Book Bag.
- Read your Speed Read Sheet x 2 (Cathy and Elisa’s Sounds Write group).

Wushka reading task: 30 – 40 mins:
- Sign into Wushka https://wushka.com.au/login
- Select one of the five Wushka Non Fiction book that your teacher has set for you in Reading Groups (Cats, Rabbits, Horses & Lizards). It is in your levelled library. Only read one book of these assigned books each day. Please note that the books are the same as last week. (As we are looking at a different comprehension strategy it is useful to read familiar books, so the children can concentrate on the new strategy, rather than unfamiliar words or ideas.)
- Read the text.
- Think about two ideas to compare that are on the same page, or over two pages so you can flick between the two.
- Talk to your parent about how two ideas in the text are similar.
- Talk to your parent about how these two ideas are different.
📝 Handwriting Task 📝 (20 minutes)
Learning Intention: We are learning to write lowercase letters correctly on dotted thirds lines.
Success Criteria – I can:
- hold my pencil correctly with the ‘snappy crocodile’ grip.
- rest my letters on the solid line.
- use the dotted thirds lines to make sure my letters are the correct size.
- start and finish my letters in the correct position.
If you need more dotted thirds paper for writing tasks, please click on the following link to print.
- On the top of your page draw the patterns shown on the worked example below. This will help to warm up your hand ready for writing.
- Neatly write the days and dates for this week. Make sure you are holding the pencil correctly (snappy crocodile) and form your letters neatly on the lines.

🔢Maths🔢 – 30 minutes
Learning Intention: We are learning to understand multiplication as equal groups, arrays, repeated addition and skip counting and practice these strategies in games.
Success Criteria – I can:
- Understand how to ‘read’ a multiplication sum. (3 x 4 = 12, “3 groups of 4 is 12”)
- Make equal groups or arrays to match a multiplication sum.
- Write the repeated addition sum to match the sum.
- Skip count to work out the answer.
- Understand that the numbers in a multiplication sum can be ‘swapped over’ ( eg:3 x 4 = 4 x 3) and use ‘commutative property’ to help me work out the answer. (Know one, know the other)
