Weeks 7 & 8

Learning Intention: We are learning to differentiate between what is known and new information

Success Criteria: I can:

  • Talk about what I know about a topic before reading the text.
  •  Talk about new ideas or information in a text while I am reading.
  •  Show evidence in the text of new ideas or information by identifying the appropriate sentence, picture or graphic.
  •  Differentiate between what is known and new information and talk about my thinking.

Independent Reading 15 mins:

Wushka reading task:  30 – 40 mins:

  1. Sign into Wushka https://wushka.com.au/login
  2. Select a Wushka Non Fiction book that your teacher has set for you in Reading Groups (Cats, Rabbits, Horses & Lizards). It is in your levelled library. Only read one book of these assigned books each day. There are enough books for ONE each day this week.
  3. Talk to your parent about what you KNOW about this topic BEFORE reading the book.
  4. Now read the book and talk to your parent about any new information you have learnt. You do not have to write down your ideas today.

📝Writing📝

Learning Intention: We are learning to hold our pencil with the correct grip and write lowercase letters on dotted thirds lines.

Success Criteria – I can:

  •  hold my pencil correctly with the ‘snappy crocodile’ grip.
  •  rest my letters on the solid line.
  •  use the dotted thirds lines to make sure my letters are the correct size.
  • start and finish my letters in the correct position.

Tasks:

  1. Complete the pattern sheet, making sure to hold your pencil correctly and trace the pattern without lifting your pencil.

2. Trace the alphabet sheet, making sure to hold your pencil correctly and taking care to start in the correct position and follow the arrows.

Webex Check In @ 10:30 am

Focus: Wellbeing – Reading.

This is a time for your child to check in, say hello to their classmates and ask any questions about the activities for the day.

We will leave the meeting open for a further 30 mins for children to work with the teacher or ask questions.

🔢Maths🔢 – 30 minutes

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand multiplication as equal groups, arrays, repeated addition and skip counting.

Success Criteria – I can:

  • Understand how to ‘read’ a multiplication sum. (3 x 4 = 12, “3 groups of 4 is 12”)
  • Make equal groups or arrays to match a multiplication sum.
  • Write the repeated addition sum to match the sum.
  • Skip count to work out the answer.
  • Understand that the numbers in a multiplication sum can be ‘swapped over’ ( eg:3 x 4 = 4 x 3) and use ‘commutative property’ to help me work out the answer. (Know one, know the other)

Warm upMultiplication: Give me 5

Please see the example below for how to fill out the ‘Give me 5’ sheet:

Grade 1: Give me 5

Click on the link to select your numbers – Spinner .

Use the image below as a guide to draw up 4 boxes to record your work and remember to write the equation in the middle of the page. (Put it in a plastic pocket so you can use it over and over). Practise 2 equations.

Grade 2: Give me 5

Click on the link to select your numbers – Spinner

Use the image below as a guide to draw up 4 boxes to record your work and remember to write the equation in the middle of the page. (Put it in a plastic pocket so you can use it over and over). Practise 2 equations.

Independent Tasks: Linking skip counting and multiplication

Watch the video ‘Workout and Count’.

Grade 1: Tasks: (15 minutes)

Choose one of the following skip counting patterns (click on the links below to download the sheet) to practice using the skip counting strategy to work out ‘groups of’ sums. Don’t forget to draw the matching array next to the answer.

Grade 2: Tasks: (15 minutes)

Choose one of the following skip counting patterns (click on the links below to download the sheet) to practice using skip counting strategy to work out ‘groups of’ sums. Don’t forget to draw the matching array next to the answer.

Challenge: Skip count by 3s

Super challenge: You can also use this format to record the first 10 numbers in another skip counting pattern across the top of your page and then write the times table facts for that number down your page beneath this pattern. Eg: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90 and then record the times table facts neatly below.
