Write a multiplication problem on the game. It will make the array that matches.

Record this array and number sentence in your book. Then flip the array using the arrow picture at the bottom and record the array and matching number sentence.

Weeks 7 & 8

Learning Intention: We are learning to differentiate between what is known and new information.

Success Criteria: I can:

  • Talk about what I know about a topic before reading the text
  •  Talk about new ideas or information in a text while I am reading.
  •  Show evidence in the text of new ideas or information by identifying the appropriate sentence, picture or graphic.
  •  Differentiate between what is known and new information and talk about my thinking.

Independent Reading 15 mins:

Wushka Online texts  30 mins:

  • Sign into Wushka https://wushka.com.au/login
  • Select a nonfiction book that you have not already read from the highest level you have access to.
  • Before reading, look at the front cover and think about what you already know about this topic.
  • Read the book.
  • After reading, think about the new information you have discovered by reading the book.

Read to Parent (10 mins) or complete the Book Week Activity

  • Read a Wushka Non Fiction book to your parent. Before reading, talk about what you already know about this topic. After reading, talk about the new information you learnt from reading this book.
  • OR

📝Writing📝

Learning Intention: We are learning to write lowercase letters correctly on dotted thirds lines.

Success Criteria – I can:

  •  hold my pencil correctly with the ‘snappy crocodile’ grip.
  •  rest my letters on the solid line.
  •  use the dotted thirds lines to make sure my letters are the correct size.
  • start and finish my letters in the correct position.

If you need more dotted thirds paper for writing tasks, please click on the following link to print.

Year 1 dotted-thirds

Year 2 dotted-thirds

Draw a pattern on the lines at the top to warm up your hand ready for writing.

Neatly write the days and dates for this week. Make sure you are holding the pencil correctly (snappy crocodile) and form your letters neatly on the lines.

Webex Check In @ 10:30 am

This is a time for your child to check in, say hello to their classmates and ask any questions about the activities for the day.

1/2KMeeting number: 165 208 3651 Password: hello

1/2BL – Meeting number: 165 665 6706 Password: hello

Focus: Reading (Book Week book – Busy Beaks – see the front cover below)

Before our Webex meeting, think about what you already know about birds. You might like to write some ideas down to share.

🔱Maths🔱 – 30 minutes

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand multiplication as equal groups, arrays, repeated addition and skip counting.

Success Criteria – I can:

  • Understand how to ‘read’ a multiplication sum. (3 x 4 = 12, “3 groups of 4 is 12”)
  • Make equal groups or arrays to match a multiplication sum.
  • Write the repeated addition sum to match the sum.
  • Skip count to work out the answer.
  • Understand that the numbers in a multiplication sum can be ‘swapped over’ ( eg:3 x 4 = 4 x 3) and use ‘commutative property’ to help me work out the answer. (Know one, know the other)

Warm upMultiplication: Give me 5

Please see the example below for how to fill out the ‘Give me 5’ sheet:

Grade 1: Give me 5

Use two dice if you have some or choose 2 numbers that are 6 and under (but not 0 or 1). Use the image below as a guide to draw up 4 boxes to record your work and remember to write the equation in the middle of the page. (Put it in a plastic pocket so you can use it over and over). Practise 2 equations.

Grade 2: Give me 5

Use two dice if you have some or choose 2 numbers to 10 (but not 0 or 1). Use the image below as a guide to draw up 4 boxes to record your work and remember to write the equation in the middle of the page. (Put it in a plastic pocket so you can use it over and over). Practise 2 equations.

Independent Task:

Watch the video below for an explanation of commutative property.

Grade 1: Task: (15 minutes)

Use two dice or choose 2 numbers 6 or under (not 0 or 1).

In your Remote Learning workbook record a sum. (For example 2 x 3). Make and draw the array and then write the answer to the sum.

Then reverse the numbers and record the sum. (For example 3 x 2). Make and draw the array and write the answer to the sum. Check that the answers are the same. If not, repeat the task.

What do you notice about the arrays? Are they exactly the same shape? Did you notice that the answer will be the same?

Send a photo of your work to your teacher.

Example:

Grade 2: Task: (15 minutes)

Then reverse the numbers and record the sum. (For example 3 x 2). Make and draw the array and write the answer to the sum. Check that the answers are the same. If not, repeat the task.

🔱Maths🔱 – 30 minutes

Learning Intention:

We are learning to understand multiplication as equal groups, arrays, repeated addition and skip counting.

Warm up

Post

If your child is struggling with 3 digits, just use 2 cards and make 2 digit numbers. Alternatively, if your child is finding 3 digits easy, give them 4 cards to make 4 digit numbers. 👍

Independent Task:

Watch the video below to revise what is meant by ‘repeated addition’ and how this links to multiplication.

Multiplication: Give me 5

Last week in our learning about multiplication in maths we practised making ‘groups of’, arrays and writing the repeated addition sum to match the equation. This week we are also learning how skip counting can also help us to work out the answer to multiplication sums.

Practise 3 – 4  equations.

Grade 2: Give me 5

Use two dice if you have some or choose 2 numbers tto 10 (but not 0 or 1). Use the image below as a guide to draw up 4 boxes to record your work and remember to write the equation in the middle of the page. (Put it in a plastic pocket so you can use it over and over). Practise 3 – 4 equations.

Information Report – Writing descriptive sentences

Watch the video about foxes:

Please get out your fox diagram from your pack. Use this diagram and your labels to write descriptive sentences about foxes.

Year One:

Try to vary your sentence starters so you are not starting with the same words each time. Eg. Dogs have four padded feet. Their tails are long and fluffy.

Use your labelled fox diagram to write sentences that clearly describe what a fox looks like. Please use the lined paper provided in your child’s take home book bag. We would like the diagram and writing to be handed to the teacher when school resumes.

Year Two:

Try to vary your sentence starters so you are not starting with the same words each time. Eg. Dogs have four padded feet. Their tails are long and fluffy.

Use your labelled fox diagram to write sentences that clearly describe what a fox looks like. Please use the lined paper provided in your child’s take home book bag. We would like the diagram and writing to be handed to the teacher when school resumes.

Year 2 challenge: Make sure that you use your adjectives within your sentences to describe a fox in more detail.

🔱Maths🔱  – 30 minutes   🌞SEASONS💧

Warm up – Watch the video:

Independent Task: Seasons

Get out your Seasons and Month Wheel sheet. Using the ideas from the video, write the correct months around the outside of the wheel for each season. Then draw pictures in the big box for each season that show what happens in that season.

Then get out your Seasons sheet that has the 4 seasons in 4 boxes and small squares with pictures. Cut out the pictures and stick them in the correct season.
